"Re-Imagining Success of Working Moms at Your Institution"
Being a mom can be a full-time job in and of itself. How are we equipping working mothers to be successful in the workplace as well? How can parents and colleagues support each other and how can supervisors support working mom employees? How can we build support networks and structures for working moms? Join us for an interactive, audience-driven session to share strategies from presenters' and participants' personal experiences, identify gaps, and provide tools to navigate your own institutional barriers.
August 24: Pilar Montejo
"How to survive and thrive in the higher education field: Using Resiliency Skills"
While the Higher Education field is very rewarding at many levels, it is also demanding and could be stressful for administrators, teachers, and students. Building resiliency in the workplace provokes better stress-management skills, mindfulness, active listening, problem-solving, leadership, diversity awareness, and team building.
September 13: Rebecca Tuttle
"Life List and the Pursuit of Happiness"
What was the last item you checked off your bucket list? With all of the lists we make from groceries to errands, why do long-term aspirations take a back seat? Today is the day to bring those “someday” hopes to the forefront. This session will begin with self-reflection and build upon that introspection to the creation of future goals. After creating a bucket list, participants will set manageable, actionable tasks and timelines to start achieving those dreams. We will discuss tools for time allocation and balancing priorities in the face of life’s everyday obligations.
November 15: Darilis Garcia-McMillian
"Managing Conflict"
Dealing with conflict can be an uncomfortable situation and one that we try to keep out of the workplace. Yet, avoiding conflict is impossible. No matter how hard we try to steer clear of it, conflict seems to find us. The workplace environment is often faced with power struggles, scarcity of resources such as time and personnel, and stressful deadlines, all of which can lead to tense relationships among colleagues. Successful leadership does well not to "stick their head in the sand” but instead will learn to embrace conflict head on in order to foster productive collaboration and authentic teamwork. This session will explore interpersonal conflict and how to take charge of resolving office tensions before they become the elephant in the room that nobody talks about.
December 13: Sharece Bunn & Caitlin McVay
"Cultivating Successful Transitions for our Peers"
Transitions are part of the higher education experience. Both new and seasoned professionals work with peers who transition in and out of our institutions. Whether folks are transitioning in or out of departments or institutions or merely handing off projects to colleagues, there are steps we can take to support one another on our journeys. In this interactive session, the presenters will share best practices and ideas for how to support one another in transitions. Participants will also be encouraged to reflect on their professional transition experiences and collaborate with others to seek creative ways to foster successful transitions in the workplace.
